DP8b- Maitreya Upper Buddha

    On the occasion of 23/3 Lunar Calendar (Am Calendar), the anniversary day of Maitreya Buddha when he attained “Dao”, i.e attainment of High Buddha level 3, I would like to introduce some information as below to help you understand better about Him.

1- Mankind thinking of  Maitreya

    People often make Statue of Maitreya Upper Buddha as a Buddha with big round belly and a fresh big wide smile, relaxed and open. His smile reveals the joyfulness, generosity and brings about the optimism and love of life. People do not only place his statute in worshipping places, like in pagodas or on the mountains, but also display his statute at home or working place in a wish to have happiness and joy. Maitreya is also deifiedas a Buddha of wealth, prosperity for the homeowner , so his statue is carved with a chain of coins or a bag of gold. It is also widely perceived that Maitreya is the symbol of luck. As the easthetic view in Buddhism is diverse the image of Maitreya is also varied in accordance with the tradition of each country and different cultures in the world. Ancient people carved Maitreya statute as a thin, handsome and intelligent Buddha wearing royal Indian clothes. Today his statute, making of as a big belly Buddha, is not close to reality about him. That happened because people think Maitreya is incarnated to a Tibetan monk named Bo Dai, who was a fat man with bald head and a relaxed smile and distinguishably big belly, wearing a big bag on his shoulder, has a lot of magic tricks and love for children. All of these are the paranoia of Rough men by deification of him and is not true about him.

In Vietnam and China, Maitreya statutes are often carved as follows:

    Sitting statute with big belly, representing joyfulness and equanimity;

    Sitting statute under conifer tree, representing loftiness;

    Sitting statute under peach tree, representing longevity;

    Statute dragging cash bag, representing wealth;

    Statute with children playing around, representing generosity and benevolence;

    Statue holding stone, representing almighty strength.

    Watching Maitreya Buddha with his innocent and free smile makes us released of stress after a long working day. He is the symbol of benevolence, detachment of all suffering of life and joyfulness of peace of mind.  Many people also think that he helps bring about happiness in life and financial prosperity.

2 – Greed for money of mankind

    Greed for money is a chronic bad habit of man. Greed for money without seeing its disastrous features.

    Money is the worst thing in mankind society on Earth. Because of greed for money man becomes vile and despicable, willful to do anything to have money: scrambling from each other, killing and robbing just for money; endless wars are just for occupation of natural resources (that generate money); embezzlement & corruption are for money, dumping un-processed wastes into rivers and seas is also for money etc. In short, money poisons people and makes them become brutal and merciless. It’s egoistic extreme materialism that leads mankind moving backward. Because of greed for money, many people hope Maitreya Buddha bring them money. They place Maitreya statute in their house sitting on a pile of cash, one hand holding a block of silver, another hand holding a bag of cash (Picture 1). When praying, they scattered petty money on his statute (Picture 2) with a hope that he will bless them for making a lot of money. This is a brutal greed for money that they even dare to offend Buddha.

              Picture 1                                                               Picture 2

    The civilsation of mankind once reached a high level will not tolerate such triumph of money. Therefore, there will be a time mankind has to abandon money. That’s a time when mankind develops in love for each other, there is no war for scrambling, materials are also more than needs and everyone can enjoy material in accordance with their need. This society will come to Earth, but it is still a long way to go. This is also the genius prophesy of Karl Max (1818-1883), the Jewish German thinker, about mankind society in the far future. We, however, have real experience from 3 other mankind bearing planets in the Universe, which are Zoh, Hoph, Thiaooba, where they have higher civilization than Earth and are experiencing such life. There is no money in such planets. Everyone lives a life full of love for each other. Everyone works voluntarily in accordance with their capacity and enjoys with their needs. There are also seeds of society without money on Earth like in some Western Europe countries where health care, general education and public transportation are free.

3- Correct understanding about Maitreya Upper Buddha

    Below are some correct information about Maitreya Upper Buddha:

    Maitreya Upper Buddha, Pali name Metteyya, means Benevolence. Buddha name ROPA, name given by Troi, also has meaning as Love-Kindness. He is an enlightenment of Dharma and he teaches all beings.

    He was born on 16/5 Quy Dau year, ie. in 1427 BC, or 3445 years ago.

    When he was living on Earth in his last incarnation, he was an Indian, the third son of an official with 3 sons in New Delhi. He finished high school then worked as an official and reached the position of province chief. He was handsome, 1.86 meter tall, had weight of 75 kg, nothing like the big belly Maitreya statue seen everywhere today. The ancient people in India and Southeast Asia didn’t make his statute as those of today (Picture 3). Picture 4 is the statute of Maitreya Buddha in Troi Buddha Temple in Hanoi which is the closest resemble of his image and accepted by him.

               Picture 3 /Internet/

His cultivation: He followed Mahayana Buddhism and had 7 incarnations cultivating at home and 3 incarnations cultivating in pagoda. In his last incarnation, he retired at the age of 60 and then started cultivating in a pagoda. Amitabha Buddha is his higher superior who guided and taught him in his cultivation.

    He died on 15/6 year At Hoi, i.e in 1354 BC, or 3372 years ago, at the age of 73. At that time He attained High Buddha level, grade 2.

    On 23/3 year Canh Ty, i.e in 1281 BC, 73 years after his death, or 1281 years ago, He was honoured to High Buddha level 3. It means he was attained “Dao”, with Buddha name ROPA (Benevolence). This Buddha name remains until today.

    He was honoured to Upper Buddha grade 3 about 146 years ago, and to Upper Buddha grade 10 around 73 years ago.

    Maitreya Buddha has 4 other names in accordance with ancient Pali as follows:

GOKA HALA (Teaching and Converting);

OABA KAMO VUP (Great Virtue);

HULA BAK HALA (Almighty Strength);

FOBA BOLA (Salvation).

    He has participated in the Three Jewel Standing Council, today called the Highest Universal Council, for 146 years as of 2018. Only Astral men of Upper Buddha level can participate in the Highest Universal Committee (Troi’s name, FOGHY). For the last 146 years, Maitreya Buddha has taken part in leading the FOGHY and the Buddha Council (DOHIZ) and is teaching mankind in the whole Universe to understand correctly the Universal Existence, the Laws of Troi and guiding mankind to cultivate to become men of Truth, Goodness and Perseverance.

4 – Placing Maitreya statute at home

    Maitreya statue should not be placed carelessly as many people are doing at home now. First of all, his image as fat, big belly man sitting on a pile of cash should not be used. For worshiping Him, his statute and the incense burner should be sanctified and placed on the altar. Worshiping Him must be conducted thoughtfully. We should pray Him for his support to have luck, lead a meaningful and useful life for society. We should never pray Him for wealth and money. He never blesses such wish.

    If his statute is not worshipped and is not sanctified, it must be placed respectfully in solemn place such as in corner of guest room or in glass cupboard. His statute should not be carelessly placed in public places. Doing so shows disrespect of Him. Buddha never accept such statute.
